France Universités condemns the ban on women's access to university in Afghanistan

France Universités condemns in the strongest terms the Taliban’s decision to ban women from university and higher education in Afghanistan, as stated in a letter they sent to all public and private universities in the country on December 20, 2022.  

After secondary education, it is now higher education that is no longer allowed for girls and women. This situation is intolerable and flouts international conventions and commitments. It is the latest in a long series of liberticidal measures and laws that have been passed in the country since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.  

These obscurantist decisions, which suppress access to knowledge and autonomy of people, are absolutely unacceptable.
